General
The General tab is the main dashboard for your WordPress application. It gives you an overview of your site's configuration — including your live URL, file structure, and core software updates.
Site details & file path
- Site URL — The primary address WordPress uses to generate internal links and redirects. If you've recently changed your domain, make sure this matches your live environment.
- File Path — The root directory of your WordPress installation (usually
public_html). You'll need this path when configuring SFTP or managing files via the command line.
WordPress version
Keeping your site secure means keeping its software up to date. This section controls how WordPress handles core updates.
- Update preferences — Toggle automatic updates for minor versions (security patches and bug fixes) or major releases. The green badge shows whether your site is running the latest stable version.
We recommend enabling automatic updates only for minor versions, to avoid compatibility issues with plugins and themes.
Maintenance mode
If you're performing a redesign or critical updates, toggle Maintenance Mode on. Visitors will see a message letting them know the site is temporarily unavailable.
