VAT
In compliance with regional tax regulations, we apply Value Added Tax (VAT) to customers — both individuals and businesses — located in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK).
What is VAT?
VAT is a consumption tax applied to most goods and services in the EU and UK, including digital services such as hosting. It's calculated as a percentage added to your total invoice amount. Because VAT rates are set by each country individually, the rate that applies to you depends on your primary residence or the country where your business is legally registered.
VAT rates
Although many countries have multiple tax tiers, our services fall under the standard VAT rate.
Tax rates are subject to change by local governments. For the most up-to-date information for your region, consult the official government resources:
- EU member states — Official EU VAT rates↗
- United Kingdom — Official UK VAT rates↗
If you're located in the EU or UK, we are generally required by law to collect VAT on all purchases — unless a valid exemption or Reverse Charge applies.
Tax exemption
Depending on your organisation's legal status or location, you may qualify for a tax exemption. Common eligible entities include:
- Non-profit organisations — Charities and NGOs with valid 501(c)(3) or equivalent status.
- Educational institutions — Accredited schools, universities, and research centres.
- Government agencies — Federal, state, or local government bodies.
- Resellers — Businesses purchasing services specifically for resale to third parties.
Some countries also offer small-business schemes. For example, in the Netherlands, the Small Business Scheme (KOR) may apply if your business is based in the Netherlands and has an annual turnover of less than €20,000.
How to apply for tax-exempt status
- Gather your documentation — Prepare a digital copy of your official state-issued exemption certificate or government approval letter (e.g. KOR confirmation).
- Contact support — Send your documents to support@originstudio.nl.
- Verification — Our team reviews your documents within 1–2 business days. Once approved, VAT will be removed from all future invoices.
